Whiney, defeatist pro-lifers
Have you taken a look around many of the Catholic blogs in the last week? Looks like the pro-life movement has failed because the people chose President-elect Barack Obama.
But, they are not taking this quietly. They are making sure that they tell everyone that they are “real Catholics”, and those who voted for Obama “just act the part”, as was pointed out by Human Life International’s Fr. Tom Euteneuer.
Frankly, I’ve come to expect more from pro-lifers than to put all their hopes, dreams and chances of success into government.
Enough with the whining, crying and finger-pointing already!
Government was the last place that Jesus looked to make the Kingdom of God a reality.
It’s time to stop working the same tired angles and lines and make a true impact!
As I said before, for more than 35 years we pro-lifers (and yes, I confidently profess to be a pro-life Catholic … no better and no worse than the Catholics who voted for John McCain, or someone other than Obama) have put too much faith in politicians and government to do something about the evils of abortion, same-sex marriage, euthanasia, embryonic stem-cell research and human cloning.
Our successes, however, haven’t come from supposed “pro-life” politicians. Rather they have come from people in the trenches who have given compassionate counsel, support and assistance to those considering abortion or a position that is indifferent to abortion.
And, success has come through an ability to have solid dialogue, with solid answers to the culture of death.
It’s time to change the approach.
We need to go back to placing the utmost importance on winning hearts, minds and souls … not winning elections.
