CatholicSphere Tuesday
So, here are some things going on in the Catholic sphere today …
Richard McBrien is “Clueless about Converts”. According to Carl Olson over at Insight Scoop, McBrien is relatively clueless about orthodox Catholicism. I, for one, would tend to agree … and, as a lifelong Catholic who received 12 years of Catholic schooling in a “post Vatican II world”, I certainly don’t fall into McBrien’s categorization of a Protestant convert who apparently falls in line with the more conservative “pre-Vatican II ‘truths’”. Lots of good links at the end of the article too! The Curt Jester and Amy Welborn also put forth their thoughts.
The Rosary Army has put out episode #5 of “That Catholic Show” on Statues and Icons. Another awesome show, guys! Great job connecting photographs and statues to religious symbols and iconography.
Oh, and um, Jennifer … you can pick your statues, and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick a statues nose! And, way to torture your kids in the heat (see outtakes at the end). That’ll teach’em! ![]()
By the way … I’d like to send a shout out to our Supreme Court justices who ruled in favor of the majority decisions yesterday on faith-based initiatives and free speech.
Some will probably be upset that Congress will open with a Hindu prayer in July … but, I’m thinking that we shouldn’t be so upset. It just means that our Christian prayers and speech is ever more welcome in the public square, right?
And, here’s an article from Crosswalk.com about “Raising Respectful Kids”. Some keys mentioned:
- Be proactive rather than reactive
- Set a good example
- Help your kids learn fast listening
- Teach your kids flexible thinking
- Show your kids how to solve problems
- Pour positive attention
- Present your kids with a fork in the road
- Use timeouts wisely
- Respond to negative behavior quickly and consistently
- Be patient
