Time to fire Bill Maher

Last Friday, Bill Maher, on his HBO show, attacked both the late Rev. Jerry Falwell and then Catholicism.

The Catholic League is basically calling for Time Warner to fire Bill Maher.

“And it’s easy to start a religion! Watch, I’ll do it for you: I had a vision last night! A vision! The Blessed Virgin Mary came to me—I don’t know how she got past the guards—and she told me it’s high time to take the high ground from the Seventh Day Adventists and give it to the 24-hour party people. And what happens in the confessional stays in the confessional. Gay men, don’t say you’re life partners, say you’re a nunnery of two. ‘We weren’t having sex, officer, I was performing a very private Mass, here in my car. I was letting my rod and staff comfort him. Take this and eat of it, [our emphasis] for this is my roommate Barry. And for all those who believe there is a special place for you in Kevin.”

This is not the first time Maher — who is extremely anti-religion, especially anti-Catholic — has made anti-Catholic statements. Previously …

[I]n a “New Rules” segment, Maher joked over a picture of Keith Richards, who joked he snorted his father’s ashes with cocaine: “New rule. Snorting your father is not crazy. Eating your father, that’s crazy.” Maher showed a picture of a priest offering a woman the Holy Eucharist.

It also not the first time that the Catholic League has called on HBO to get rid of Maher. But, if Maher is allowed to continue his personal tirades against Catholics, while Don Imus had to be dismissed, then it is fair to call those folks hypocrites.

Where’s your “tolerance”, Maher?

  1. Well, if you’ve ever actually matched Bill Maher (and not just read about his show when the Catholic League sends out a “call to action”), you’d know that he makes fun of just about every religion, minority, and political party we have. He’s like the South Park of HBO. It’s just funnier when it’s about Catholics!

  2. I’m familiar with Bill Maher. I’ve watched his show; I’ve watched a number of the different shows he’s had in the past.

You’re right … he “makes fun of” (aka takes jabs at) all that. Saying he’s “funny” is a stretch.
