It’s Monday morning, I’m still moving a little slow, but there were some happenings over the weekend that I wanted to share …
First, I had wanted to see Spiderman 3 sometime this weekend, but it was just too full of stuff to be able to do so; between softball games and birthday parties and appreciation dinners at my parish, to try to see the movie would have been like putting 10 pounds in a 5 pound bag. But, Spiderman 3 broke every previous record for movies in its opening weekend without me, bringing in an estimated $148,000,000 domestic (although it cost about $258,000,000 to make); and foreign box office estimates bring the 3-day total to about $375,000,000.
The core of the cast, however, says they won’t be back for another film in the series. In fact, they haven’t been too enthusiastic about promoting the film, according to excerpts of interviews I saw on E! Entertainment Television’s “The Soup” this weekend.
In other news, the webcast of a debate between “Way of the Master” evangelists, Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort, and two members of the Rational Response Squad (perhaps Brian and Kelly “Sapient”) has been changed to Wednesday, May 9th. It will be available on ABC.com (online) at 2 pm EDT and portions will be shown on Nightline at 11:35pm EDT. The whole thing came about in response to “The Blasphemy Challenge” that the Rational Response Squad put out, challenging folks — especially teens — to commit the unforgivable sin, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
Also, a new study out of Australia says that Dads are responsible for overweight kids.
[F]athers who are disengaged or do not set clear limits for their kids are more likely to have heavier children. Dads who did lay down boundaries generally had children with a lower body mass index (BMI), the study of almost 5,000 youngsters found.
Also, productivity blog LifeHacker has an entry asking folks “What do you wish you’d been told before you left school?” Perhaps you’d like to share some pearls of wisdom, or gain some to help your own kids along.
And, finally, but perhaps most importantly, take some time today to pray for those affected by the extremely deadly tornado that ripped through Kansas on Friday.
I also plan to have another post later today about the volunteer appreciation dinner at my parish last night. Some good conversation that might be of interest to parents, especially regarding teens, dating, chastity, making good decisions and helping your kids through all that.
