Don’t Give Your Money to the Bank

We all want to save money, right? Right?! (If you don’t, please contact me and I’ll take your extra money off your hands for you)

Having things like an “emergency fund” and a “rainy day fund” are essential in having financial independence. Financial independence can keep you from being tied to your job, lowering stress and being able to spend more time where it counts: with family, friends and living your faith.

However, the last place you want to be losing money is at the bank.

The Street.com has published an interesting article “10 Banking Moves You Should Make Today“; and SmartMoney.com has published “5 Sneaky Bank Fees“.

I’m presently shopping for a bank since my current bank has been taken over by a larger “corporate” bank that charges for many of the things my “old” bank used to offer for free. I encourage others to take a look at their current banks offerings in light of the items mentioned in the article and see if you’re losing money by banking with your bank.

  1. One of the points of common ground of the political left and the Catholic social teaching is an appreciation of credit unions. To heck with the banks. Credit Unions give working people a non-profit, membership owned alternative.
