Don’t be (anti-)gay
Don’t Worry, ‘Be Happy’
I really feel sorry for educators these days. They are caught in the middle of a battle that they cannot win if they want to look like they are “tolerant”. Here’s another example (in a growing list) of how those who don’t accept the promotion of the homosexual lifestyle are having their Constitutional rights trampled.
The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) legal counsels are defending Heidi Zamecnik, a student at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Ill., about 30 miles west of Chicago, whose anti-homosexuality shirt was censored by school officials, following a day when the school had allowed students to wear pro-gay T-shirts.
This seems to be a clear abridgment of the students’ First Amendment rights given that pro-gay clothing could be worn, but not pro-straight clothing.
I have to applaud this student for taking such a stand. As homosexuals become more outspoken and speaking out against the acceptance of the gay lifestyle becomes a minority position, it can become quite dangerous to say or do anything that might raise the ire of gays and activists.
That’s one of the ironies that continues to “come out” (pun intended). For all their talk of “tolerance” and “equal rights” and “love”, there is very little action to that effect from the pro-gay side. I’ll readily admit that I don’t have “tolerance” for that which I believe to be wrong. Even so, I’m not going to resort to physical violence, nor am I going to censor people from expressing their own beliefs — given the appropriate venue, of course. (For instance, storming into a group’s meeting and screaming out one’s opposition to their beliefs and positions is not appropriate.)
