An Inconvenient Truth
Girls need their daddies. Duh!
Well, whaddaya know? The American Psychological Association has finally caught on to what many of us have already understood as common sense. After studying some 300 studies on the matter, the APA came out with its report on the Sexualization of Girls.
As other editorial page columnists have commented, “a few days ago the APA released its findings that American girls are sexualized. And that’s bad.”
But, the more pertinent news is that fathers play an important role in stemming girls susceptibility to such objectification.
Fathers, after all, are the ones who tell their little girls that they’re perfect, that they don’t need to be thinner and that under no circumstances are they going out of the house dressed that way.
Of course, that fact is downplayed. We wouldn’t want to say that kids who have a mother and a father living together is superior to something such as, say, “Heather” having “two mommies”. God forbid!
Boys, too, need to be taught respect for girls. That they are not sex objects, there for male gratification. Men, we have to teach our sons that its not cool to ogle girls and women. And we need to teach our daughters that they should never allow guys to take advantage of them. We need to raise girls that pimps and thugs will hate.
And, girls need their moms too. So we need to cut out this social experiment of “homosexual families” and we need to teach our kids the importance of true marriage and family (and the rights and responsibilities that come with them). We need to build strong families that will build strong kids.
And we need to take our responsibilities and commitments very seriously, and not enter into relationships casually and lightly. After all, we are different from the animals.
More in-depth coverage is given to the matter over at Catholic Online.

[...] But what about the kids? In fact, our culture is so obsessed with sex that we are actually putting heavy sexual imagery into products aimed even at young girls—from the Bratz dolls to teen magazines and clothing. But, a recent study by the American Psychological Association found that this is actually harmful to girls. I’ve already written a bit about that earlier, but it merits being repeated—perhaps as often as possible until we understand the consequences of having sex and sexual imagery in our faces at every turn.
