Perseverance of the Saints
Nope, not talkin’ ’bout the “P” in the Calvinist “TULIP” formula. I’m talkin’ ’bout the New Orleans Saints, as in the NFL football team from New Orlean, Louisiana.
Battered in 2005 by Hurricane “finger of God” Katrina, everyone is talking about how New Orleans has battled back. The football team, outfitted in appropriate armor for battle, hoisted the city on its shoulders and pushed back.
“We shall overcome.”
That’s the way it’s being played up, anyway. As they come into “my town” to play the Chicago Bears for the NFC Championship, they find themselves just two wins away from winning their wrestling match with God.
This isn’t just about football anymore … it’s about overcoming God’s wrath — and all of America is watching, on a Sunday afternoon no less.
However, I believe “God’s Lovie” will rain down on the Saints.
