Wednesday New Roundup
Interesting, encouraging, disheartening and exciting news of the day…
Tuesday was the last open session of the Fall Conference of US Catholic Bishops. They called for “substantive, civil and nonpartisan discussion” leading to “a responsible transition in Iraq.” They also addressed contraception , saying Catholics need better knowledge of natural family planning so that more might actually use it. Moving right along, the Bishops confirmed that those guilty of serious sin should refrain from receiving the Eucharist until they have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
The biggest news — at least if measured by the amount of coverage by the MSM — had to be with the adoption of the document on pastoral care for homosexuals. Judging from the response to the document in the MSM, it seems obvious that the only thing that would appease the gay community would be if the Church said that homosexuality was no longer sinful and they were free to live an unchaste life.
This really needs a lot of prayer from the whole Church, that all who are not , or not yet, called to the Sacrament of Marriage, may find strength to live in accord with God’s plan.
Also, visitors to the Supreme Court building are being told a depiction of Moses and the 10 Commandments on the building’s architectural decoration are being told its an homage to the Bill of Rights. Nice try guys! At least we know the Truth, right?
In embryonic stem-cell research news, it appears that scientists have gotten around the whole cancerous tumor problem … by using seaweed. Despite that, doesn’t look like they’ve let the ethical issues bog them down [groan]. Yet, for all that, adult stem-cells are still providing greater break-throughs God-willing the ESCR crowd will wake from their stupor soon — maybe it’ll take the injection of some adult stem-cells!
