  1. Since there are so many different religions that have differing beliefs, how should we address the type “information” that may offend or contradict others? Your comments from July 3rd about the Declaration of Independence would seem to raise questions, and seem to support Sen. Obama’s comments about religion and the reasons why there is seperation of Church and State.

I remember talking to a priest many years ago who was absolutely insistent that that seperation exist. He said that he would not want the state to be involved in the religious ciriculum, that would be likely if the state were not seperate. Yet, many of the religions today want to tell the government what rules it should make and even who their parishoners should support for election.

This may seem to be the way religions should act but is it really the way we want to have our country and our churches run? The bottomline is that if the state gets involved in religion, then which religion is going to be state sponsored. That goes back to the religious persecution that the founders of this country tried to allow the practice of religion without prejudice and addressed it with the creation of the constitution that provides for the seperation and the right to practice our faith. If we are not sensitive to others, and not treat them with respect and dignity, are we truly practicing Jesus’ teachings?
