Lies (and lying liars …)

UPDATE [8/28/2006]: First Things had an entry on this issue on Friday that adds several important details.

Well, it seems that the “embryonc stem cell research technique” that was touted to remove stem cells without resulting in the death of a the embryo was another lie. (LifeNews.com: Supposed New Embryonic Stem Cell Research Technique Killed All Embryos)

Upon further examination of the research paper making the claims, it appears all of the 16 human embryos Advanced Cell Technology used to come up with the process died during the procedure.

It’s unclear from the article, whether the embryos died, or were terminated. But, the fact of the matter is that ACT was touting that it had successfully removed stem-cells from embryos, and the embryos lived. It’s a false claim. They either died or were not allowed to live — so the moral and ethical issues remain. Nothing has changed. There is no way of knowing, even if the embryos remained alive, what the effect was/would have been on that life.
