Chicago news tries to “crack the ‘Code’”

The other night, CBS2News Chicago aired a feature on “Cracking the DaVinci Code”. If you take the time to watch the video feature on the website, you’ll see that there are some things that really don’t answer the questions definitively — for instance on Opus Dei. By not speaking in the fullness of truth on these matters, the news media is perpetuating the lies put forth by The DaVinci Code. CBS2Chicago’s feature keeps just enough from the public so that the DaVinci Code’s fiction may still retain its force as potential fact. But, how many people believe there is fact to this fiction?
CBS2Chicago asks the question: Do you think the DaVinci Code’s portrayal of Christian history is accurate? As of the writing of this entry, the station’s website displays that 70% voted “no”, 16% yes, and 14% not sure.

It makes one wonder … what is all the fuss about? Well, that’s the question that people were asking about the cartoons of Muhammad. Muslims take their faith seriously. And, so do many Christians … particularly those who are upset at the portrayal of their beliefs in this popular writing. In his May 16th column, Pat Buchanan asks Who’s God may we mock?.

The problem is, as I said yesterday, many Christians are not as informed about their faith and history as they should be. And, this is why something like The DaVinci Code has sold over 40 million copies and been translated into 42 languages.

While I don’t believe Christians need to resort to violence over any issue, perhaps if more were informed in their faith, and took it more seriously, they wouldn’t fall prey to such nonsense as contained in the questions Amy Welborn has to field, and authors like Dan Brown would hold more respect for such beliefs.
