The “Gospel of Judas”: Another thought
No matter if it dates back to A.D. 230 - 310 … if what it says is untrue.
The “Gospel” of Judas is old, but it was rejected by orthodox Christianity. Orthodox Christianity affirmed the canonical Scriptures partly based on who conveyed the information to the community. We know that Judas didn’t pen this … the origin of the story is late … 3rd century. Not 1st century, like the 4 canonical Gospels.
And, even though there may have been multiple writings and letters during the first centuries of Christianity, the Church is not without understanding of that which was passed down by eyewitnesses, and therefore can authenticate what is true and what is not — which is a reason for the affirmation of the canonical Gospels.
All else is fanciful history … taking part truth and part fiction to put the Church, and Christianity under scrutiny … and cause people to doubt and turn away.
