Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston

A nude Britney Spears on a bearskin rug while giving birth to her firstborn marks a ‘first’ for Pro-Life. Pop-star Britney Spears is the “ideal” model for Pro-Life and the subject of a dedication at Capla Kesting Fine Art in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg gallery district, in what is proclaimed the first Pro-Life monument to birth, in April.

Britney Spears is the “ideal” model for Pro-Life? I don’t think I’d put her on my top 100 list. Especially after the incident of driving with her 4-month old son riding in her lap.

Of course, this is just in time for her primetime debut on Will & Grace, tomorrow night (March 30th) on NBC.

Although, I do have to say that I like the fact that this will probably tick-off many of her fans. And, apparently, its ticking off PETA too, which I really love.

Even animal rights groups are upset at the bearskin rug, modelled from an actual bearskin bought over the Internet from Canada for US$150.

“We’re a little confused by the mixed message of a pro-life statue depicting the skin of a dead animal being used as a birthing mat,” said Bruce Wieland, spokesman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

“Yuck! Couldn’t she have squatted down on a nice cushy acrylic throw?”

But, rather than be a model for pro-life, it instead seems to be a mockery of it — and Robert Jaffe, a spokesman for NARAL Pro-Choice New York, said just that …

“What’s ironic is you have a very sexualized piece of art and opponents of abortion are by and large opposed to modern-day society’s approach to sex,” he said.

At least NARAL may be using it that way. Mr Jaffe’s comments are true enough, in that pro-lifer’s don’t buy into the “do whatever feels good, whenever you feel like it, with whomever you feel like” approach to sex. It’s brought us so many “good things”, like a wider spread of STDs, unwanted pregnancies, contraception (which, when it fails, leads to abortion), greater numbers of welfare moms and kids, increased child abuse and neglect, … and the list goes on …
