Chicago’s “Gay Games” brings agenda and division

The “Gay Games” are coming to Chicago. A sports and cultural event somewhat like the Olympics that are said to be about “inclusion”. Noting the contradiction in naming something supposed so “inclusive” the “Gay Games”, there are residents of one suburb that aren’t too happy that the “Games” have sought to descend upon their community.

In fact, the opinion of the local newspaper is that those who oppose the “Gay Games” are “bigots”.

There were times when something called the Gay Games would have been shunned. The fact that such an event can be considered a positive draw for a community shows how far society has come.

Still, some bigots will oppose the competition just because participants are gay. But the games combat hatred.

If the Games actually combat hatred, then it is lost on the author of the op/ed piece.

Kevin Boyer, co-vice-chairman of the Gay Games Chicago board, said some people used the event as an excuse to oppose the gay and lesbian community.

“For some people I’ve heard that are opposed to this, it’s about discrimination and stereotypes and opposition to the gay and lesbian community,” Boyer said.

Comments like these dismiss the possibility that people have valid reasons for believing as they do about homosexuality. This is precisely the agenda the “Gay Games” seeks to promote, by naming the event as they do, yet turning around and allowing competitors of all skill levels, ages or sexual orientation.

It creates divisions in these communities, under the guise of “inclusion”, and they just sit right back and say “oh well, that’s their problem”. There seems no purpose for the city of Crystal Lake, Illinois to host the rowing competition in their community. After all, the article about the resident’s reactions says that the event won’t bring many to the town, which means it won’t have much impact on the local economy. So why create a needless divide in the community?

The city is set to vote tomorrow night on whether to approve the request …
