Why Bono Dismantled Kanye
Last night at the Grammy’s, lessons were taught … and hopefully notes were taken.
Many of the blogs and music fans out there are probably going to be talking about how the others deserved the Grammy for Album of the Year more than U2; how their music was better than U2’s. Maybe it is, but maybe music isn’t the only factor.
The distinction was clear — if you want to be a spokesman, you need to say something — something more than “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” or “Now I aint sayin she a gold digger … But she aint messin wit no broke n——”.
Bono’s U2 has taken on political issues since their start … and he has taken on world issues with some surprising clarity at times, especially as the years have progressed. There’s something to be said about someone who can preach to heads of State about the importance of God’s laws reflected in man’s laws.
And while the law is what we say it is, God is not silent on the subject.
That’s why I say there’s the law of the land… and then there is a higher standard. There’s the law of the land, and we can hire experts to write them so they benefit us, so the laws say it’s OK to protect our agriculture but it’s not OK for African farmers to do the same, to earn a living?
As the laws of man are written, that’s what they say.
God will not accept that.
