Michael Schiavo marries mistress in a Catholic Church
Jimmy Akin discusses what was wrong with Michael Schiavo getting re-married in the Catholic Church. He was on Relevant Radio today discussing the seriousness of this matter.
The basics of the situation is that Canon Law prohibits marriage — without a dispensation of the Pope — of someone who was involved in bringing about the death of their spouse. Jimmy notes that this doesn’t say “murder”, but simply having “brought about the death of a spouse by mutual physical or moral cooperation also invalidly attempt a marriage together.” (Canon 1090, §2)
This is no small issue. And, we need to be vocal about it. It scandalizes the Catholic Church and her moral teachings — which is why this is so important as to only be dispensed of by the Pope.
