O Come, Emmanuel
Hopefully, your response to yesterday’s message was that you want the “enhanced Christmas”, of the fullest Christmas Joy. Starbuck’s may be saying “It only happens once a year”, but Bill Murray’s character in “Scrooged” has it right when he says “It doesn’t only have to be once a year”.
The fullest Christmas Joy is discovering Christ Jesus and the gift of Himself to the world, for the world.
And, as the rest of Murray’s comments exclaim, it’s not too late; there’s still time. It’s Christmas Eve. There’s still time for you to say “O Come, Emmanuel”, and discover the limitless riches of the true Joy awaiting on Christmas morning.
Christians have been anticipating the coming of the Savior. The four weeks before Christmas, called Advent, has been a season of re-living the anticipation of Christmas. The people of the Old Testament times awaited the coming of the Savior, the Hebrews specifically anticipated the coming of a Deliverer.
Much of the world looks to finite things to provide deliverance from their pain and afflictions. The look for the joy of Christmas morning in the gifts under the Christmas tree. However, those things provide only short-lived comforts. To experience a lasting Joy of Christmas, we have to look under the Star, look in a humble manger, in Bethlehem, the place where I was foretold that He would be born, over 2000 years ago.
Today, ask Jesus to come, then make a commitment to discover Who He is…
