“Black Friday”

The “Day after Thanksgiving” has been dubbed “Black Friday”, as it is a day when retailers typically go from the “red” to the “black” in terms of revenue and profits. And, apparently this year was no different, except that observers said they believe there were larger crowds this year.

But, there is, of course, the mayhem, as stupid people, focusing on what they buy as what’s important to Christmas, who care nothing, and seem to have a blatant disregard, for others hit the stores. And, that is why I think it’s really “Black Friday”. People talk about Christmas as the time for a spirit of giving, when there is a bit more love, and I believe it is, as that’s what my family and I try to make it. I am proud to say that I’ve never shopped on the “day after Thanksgiving”.

But there were plenty who thought nothing of stealing Christmas from others. In Orlando, a man fought with security guards after allegedly cutting in line to get a discount laptop. An elderly woman was trampled by shoppers.

Certainly, there are those who can harken back to yesteryear to recall the battle for the Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. No wonder there are those who want you to make that day “Buy Nothing Day”. But, “Black-eye Friday” is what happens in some places on that day.

And, of course, there are those looking for an XBox 360 who will never find them because they are sold out everywhere even though Microsoft reports there are no problems with production, which they ramped up prior to the release and the holiday season.

Good luck to you shoppers … be careful out there, and make sure you mind your manners and act civil to one another. It’s only money and possessions.
