Maybe it wasn’t so stupid after all

An interesting thought crossed my mind today (or at least I thought it interesting). Of course, most everyone knows that the nomination of Harriet Miers has generated controversy among liberal and conservative groups and persons. Could it be that this was the President’s plan all along? Could it be that by choosing a nominee that was not immediately, and overwhelmingly, acceptable to conservatives, the confirmation process will be made easier?

If Harriet Miers is pro-life, and stands for the things that conservatives would expect from a Bush nominee, then it may be possible to slip such a “closet conservative” through onto SCOTUS by getting conservatives to disapprove of the choice.

Am I giving the administration too much credit? Perhaps.

Whether it’s true or not, we may never know…
